Prototyping Research
WiARframe:
In order to create my finalised project I must first create a prototype so that I can visualise how things will work. In order to achieve this I have done some research into different types of AR prototyping software's. The first one that I discovered was the WiARframe prototyping tool, I had to get into contact with the creator in order to gain access
WiARframe Editor:
The software for the WiARframe software is easy to use and simplistic enough that anyone can jump on and create something in Augmented Reality. However, this software was not effective in communicating my idea as it did not support image recognition.
Torch:
The second software Torch was the most simplistic however, at the same time the most difficult for myself to grasp as everything created in the prototyping is done through your mobile phone. Some may see this as a positive and others a negative, for myself due to the complexity of my project this was a negative for me, as I am more used to the traditional software and UI that we see in the other two softwares. From the Torch website they describe their app as "the only 3D design and prototyping app that lets you create directly on the device, in 3D, using augmented reality features while designing. Aside from your mobile device, there's no special hardware required and you do not need game development or coding experience."(Torch.app, 2019)
WakingApp:
The third software is the WakingApp which again comes with its own editor, slightly more advanced than the previous two, however what can be achieved in this software is more practical and viable for my project. The UI of this software is more of what I am used to, within applications such as Unity and Photoshop. The added benefit of this software is that it allows image recognition within AR, which is exactly what I am looking for. The only downside to this software is that it only provides a 10 day free trial and thereafter requires a subscription, however due to the quality of the software it is something I would be willing to subscribe to.
